Data Collection App and Automated Data Pipeline for Accessibility Tech Startup
IQ Inc. helped our client automate their data analysis pipeline and designed and developed a curb ramp assessment application that collects high‑resolution, engineering‑grade data on curb ramp conditions.
Our client is a company focused on improving sidewalk, curb ramp, and pedestrian pathway accessibility for people of all abilities.
As demand for their accessibility mapping and assessment services grew, the client needed a more efficient way to collect curb data in the field and process it at scale.
Data Workflow
Automation with Dagster
ArcGIS Integration
IQ collaborated with the client to develop a custom application that can capture curb data digitally using sensors and camera and automatically integrate the data with ArcGIS for spatial visualization. This greatly reduced the time taken to complete an assessment compared to when it had to be done manually with mechanical inclinometer or tape measures.
The IQ team also redeveloped the legacy data analysis application in Python in order to meet the new performance and compatibility requirements. To automate data handling, we integrated Dagster as a workflow orchestration tool and configured the pipeline to trigger automatically with each new data capture.
Results & Impacts
- A faster, fully automated system that positions the company to scale its mission, deliver real-time insights to clients, and continue improving urban accessibility at a national level.
- Improve data processing efficiency, reducing runtime by close to 50%.
- Seamless data integration with GIS platforms and ADA compliance tools.
- Scalable for large areas as the application enable the team to cover entire neighborhoods and cities more efficiently than traditional data collection methods.
